LITHUANIAN FORUM OF THE DISABLED (LNF) is

the Lithuanian Umbrella organization for Disability Organisations  and was founded in 2001. At the moment it has 14 national member organisations representing about 200 000 people with disabilities and their families.

Lithuanian forum of the disabled is the member of European Disability Forum (EDF) from 2003.

STRUCTURE OF THE ORGANISATION:

The members of LNF are nationality non-governmental organisations of persons with disabilities and their families, academic establishments, institutes and individuals acting in the area of social integration of people with disabilities.

The highest body in LNF is the annual meeting. It meets once per year.

The annual meeting elects an board of the organisation with nine members (president, eight board members, reviser).

MISSION OF LNF:

We strive toward state policy that promotes human, social and economical rights for disabled.

LNF follows the principles of equal possibilities for all and nondiscrimination  for people with disabilities.

AIM OF LNF:

Our organisation is to seek to improve the right of Lithuanian people like Europeans have, and to represent them in the Europe institutions.

In order to reach its aims LNF is working in different fields

WORK DIRECTION: 

  • Promotion of advantages in the policy of government and local municipality, as well as influencing process of adopting positively set legislation for people with disabilities.
  • To promote policy, which protect rights of the people with special disabilities;
  • To cooperate with different agencies on national and local level; 
  • To provide systematic monitoring of legislative proposals concerning people with special disabilities;
  • To promote participation in the decision making process on all levels to protect interests of participating organisations;
  •  To participate within its competence in drafting laws and other normative acts and provides opinion on them. 

ACTIVITIES:

  • Representatives of the organisation are included in the work groups of Lithuanian Ministry of Welfare and Latvian Ministry of Health to develop new legislation which will be based on principles of antidiscrimination and equal rights.         
  • Special attention is paid to
    • The ratification of The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
    • educational policy – the education must be accessible and available for all.
    • Services for disabled – must be created the system of all kind services for disabled in municipalities.
    •  Strengthening of position of organization of disabled
    •  Employment policy – the government must be responsible for creating of work places for disabled and the state institutions have a good chance to show a good examples of that 

INFORMATION AND TRAINING: 

  • To raise awareness of the Society to the problems of people with special needs.
  • To publish useful information about disability issue. 
  • To organise training seminars.

Rally "We Are" is canceled!

            25 November, 2009 was held meeting of Council of LNF and Organizing committee of rally “We Are”. During this meeting it was decided to cancel on 3 December planned rally of people with disabilities due to nasty weather and influenza epidemic that have been pronounced throughout the country. Organize public events during the epidemic, at least it would be irresponsible.

             Thanks to all people of goodwill who helped organize the rally and have registered to participate.

Regarding the current situation in Lithuania  Lithuanian forum of the disabled decided to organize the Rally „We are“ which will take place in Vilnius on 3th of December. The aim of the Rally is to show to our government, that disabled people are united. At that moment we have not signed UN Convention. So this event must remind to our government, that the government owes people with disability...

Situation in Lithuania

          We want to inform You, that Last month ( 27.10.2009) Lithuanian forum of disabled organized the press conference. Our government decided to reduce all incomes for disabled people, old people and woman’s in maternity leave. And some organizations (disabled, women, trade unions, old people) was invited to sign National Agreement.

           Our government decided :

          1. to reduce allowance (pensions) to all kind of disabled. And it is called the solidarity (the more you are disabled, the more you get, the more You must give.) It is means, that pensions for people with severe disability will   be reduced more then pensions of people with mild disabilities. (All disabled people get some allowance (pensions) depending on disability level in Lithuania . It is possibility to bay some service You need)

          2. The pensions of  working disabled people will be reduced moreover.

          3. refused transport allowances for people with reduced mobility. It is means, the disabled people will not have a possibility to adopt their car .

          So during the press conference our disabled organizations said to our government NO and NO to National agreement

          But next day the National agreement was signed by some others participants (some kind of professional unions and etc) without disabled, old people, and woman’s in maternity leave.
